Quick Hits

Just some quick thoughts from the last few days:
    1. See What started It All
The blog entry that inspired "the funniest blog on the internet" has been reposted. Check it out.
    2. See You Later, Gator
The USC loss really changed things around. I was surprised we're not facing that other team again, but it will be fun to show the world that Chris Leak doesn't belong on the same field as Troy Smith. (Now, Teebow is a different story.) The Rose Bowl isn't a bad consolation prize, Matt andMatt.
    3. Practice What Was Preached
Jason preached on Matthew 26 (I received more than a few comments that my job may be in jeopardy now!). It was the introduction of a month long devotional he wrote called "Awe and Intimacy." You can follow along here.
    4. A Great Negative Thursday
Thursday night, my fantasy football team scored -0.75 points. Why did I enjoy it anyway? A) My team has a bye this week, B) I actually got to see the Baltimore/Cincinnati game in person, and C) My Steelers are still defending Super Bowl Champions! Lots of rain...but a total blast.
    5. Bring Your Bible to the Picket?
Fortunately, the protest has been cancelled. (Yes, professing believers were planning to join with non-believers to picket a church, ugh.) Views on Mark Driscoll are varied, but I think he has responded to a difficult situation properly.
    6. Keep Bad-mouthing Kobe, Phil!
Kobe Bryant is on my fantasy basketball team (character is not a category we record). Last week, Phil Jackson said, "Kobe will probably never get back to 100%" (he had knee surgery). Kobe responded with 52 points!

Can you answer 2 questions for me?

    1. How do you not lose a game and drop in the polls?

    2. How does USC lose 2 games to unranked teams and still go to the Rose Bowl?

    Answers to the above questions...

    1. How do you not lose a game and drop in the polls? When the team below you beats a top-10 team like Arkansas. Wins over top-10 teams have this strange effect of impressing voters, especially late in the season.

Michigan has two wins like that (Wisc, Notre Dame), but both of those teams hadn't beaten anyone significant.

Florida now has several of those types of wins (LSU and Arkansas are most impressive). LSU and ARK are better than any team Michigan has beaten this year.

    2. Why ask such an obvious question? The Pac-10 champion is AUTOMATICALLY sent to the Rose Bowl, unless they make the title game.

The big conferences are locked in to these BCS games.

Very easy questions to answer, actually, and please ask any more that come to mind.

    wow, a wailer sighting!!!!!!

i agree. it's not so much that michigan dropped in the polls during a bye week, it's that florida passed them after having another high quality win.

as for usc. i hope this does curb some of the big10 bashing this year. michigan, ohio state and wisconsin COMBINED for only 2 losses on the season. meanwhile, the pac10 representative has two pretty lousy losses on their record. but then again, when has the pac10 really ever been anything.

Silly me I thought the idea of the BCS championship was to have the 2 best teams play. I am a realistic UoM fan so I agree that OSU would have beaten UoM again, but OSU is going to kill Florida and you know it. So why not make it a good game? Florida has not looked good all year, I don't care what the record says. Didn't look good against Arkansas, South Carolina, FSU but I guess they did look good against that powerhouse Western Carolina....

I understand the whole AUTOMATICALLY but you still didn't answer the common sense question. I don't care about AUTOMATIC anything, if you lose 2 games to unranked opponents, you should not go to the rose bowl, it just can not be defended logically.
