Power 5--Old Guy Edition

1. Kenny Rogers--this is starting to get ridiculous. Winner of 8 straight and a league leading 1.62 ERA.
2. Past His Prime Time--doesn't it just feel like a couple of years ago that Deion played in an NFL game and a playoff baseball game in the same day? Man, he's slowed down. (Conflict of interest here too. I just want to get back to hearing his craziness in pregame!)
3. Dennis Boyd--no rust on the Oil Can. Imagine being abused on the mound by a guy who could be your dad.
4.Like Father, Like Son--listen to dear old dad rip the media for noticing that K2 ruined his season popping wheelies in a parking lot.
5.Zo--what? You're not rooting for Detroit yet (and for Wade's injury to bother him about 48 more hours). How bout this. Zo works in Charlotte and leaves the people out to dry, signing a free agent contract in Miami and stating the beautiful quote, "I work for Nike, not Charlotte." Then, continues to collect his full pay in Miami through his kidney injury and one failed comeback. Signs with the Nets (multiyear contract) and again, continues to collect while suffering through injuries. Goes on injured list. Demands a trade. Gets trade to Raptors but refuses to report. After being cut, returns to Heat to validate career with championship ring (yeah Zo, your 8 minutes a game are the key if Miami wins it all.) This should be a no brainer. We should all be rooting to see if Tayshaun has any answers for Manu!

O.K. TELL ME THIS, WILL YOU STILL WATCH THE FINALS EVEN THOUGH THE PISTONS WON'T BE IN IT?

AND ZO DID NOT DEMAND A TRADE WHEN CARTER CAME OVER, HE WANTED TO STAY. HE DIDN'T REPORT BECAUSE HE TOLD THEM NOT TO TRADE HIM, AND THE NETS TRADED HIM BECAUSE THEY NEED MONEY.

ZO GAVE ALL OF HIS MONEY THAT HE IS MAKING WITH THE HEAT (NOT EVEN A MILL.) TO HIS FOUNDATION. I GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR PLAYING WITH THE RISK. HE IS PROBABLY THE BEST BACK UP CENTER IN THE LEAGUE AND HE LOOKS LIKE HE COULD PLAY ANOTHER 5 YRS.

DON'T KNOCK HIM. AT HIS POINT IN HIS CAREER, WHY NOT PLAY FOR A GOOD TEAM AND TRY TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. BARKLEY DID IT, MALONE DID IT, RODMAN DID IT, ....YOU DON'T ALWAYS COME OUT ON TOP, BUT IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO PLAY WITH THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE, WOULDN'T YOU?

    orb,

i hope you enjoy these discussions as much as i do. i have decided to overlook the fact that every post is you yelling at me (all in caps!!!!) and instead will just focus on your ORBservations:

    a) i will watch the finals no matter what. 1) i love the nba. 2) manu is my favorite player 3) i would watch to root against shaq and zo!

    b) of course he didn't demand a trade when carter came. he WAS IN the trade that got them carter. if you mean he didn't demand a deal before then, i don't know what you call going on the disabled list with creeky knees and refusing to suit up (which is what he did both to new jersey and toronto) if that isn't demanding a deal.

    c) i will applaud zo for giving his money to his foundation...he is not obligated to do that and it shouldn't be minimized. however, do not ignore that the only reason he is able to be in miami is he forced toronto to come to a settlement on his remaining contract he signed with new jersey (ie. he got a large sum of cash NOT TO PLAY for toronto!)

    d) not ready to say he is best backup. i'd rather have stephen hunter. i possibly would rather have dekembe mutombo. i'd rather have adonal foyle (let's be honest, he may be starting, but he's a backup center).

    e) so barkley, malone and rodman all sold out to try to ride the coat tails of a champion to get their long elluded ring (except rodman, who already had a couple). 1) examine the quality of characters you are referring to (i would argue none are model citizens). 2) malone chided that byron scott only rode magic and kareem and worthy's coat tails to his championships. then he had the audacity to sign with los angelos and didn't think he was doing the same with kobe and shaq? 3) because other athletes in the past have done it, that makes it admirable?

    f) i will be shocked if zo plays the 06-07 season.

    g) don't even get me started about shaq being the best player in the league. NO WAY!

    h) now, if you are referring to d wade as the best player in the league, you may have a decent argument there....but i refuse to acknowledge it because you yelled at me in your entire post.

MY BAD. I JUST LIKE BIG LETTERS! I'M NOT YELLING. IT IS GREAT TO FIND SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THEIR NBA. I HAVE NEVER BEEN A SHAQ FAN. SO DON'T THINK I AM.........I AM A FAN OF THE ONE YOU PISTON FANS HATE. M.J.!! I JUST LOVE THE NBA. BUT I DON'T GET DOWN ON PLAYERS THAT WANT TO WIN. AND IT IS HARD TO WIN WITH SOME OF THESE TEAMS THAT DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR PROGRAMS! I THINK MALONE WAS STUPID FOR GOING TO L.A.

I THOUGHT SHAQ HAS PROVEN HE IS THE MVP OF THE LEAGUE BY DOING WHAT HE HAS DONE TO THE TEAM. HE IMPROVES PLAYERS. JUST LIKE M.J. DID. THAT IS AN MVP. YEAH HE IS A GO TO MAN BUT WHERE WAS THE REST OF THE PHOENIX TEAM WHEN NASH AND A.STOUD. SCORED ALL THE POINTS - THEY MET SOME "D".

REGUARDLESS OF WHO WINS TONIGHT IT WILL BE A GREAT 7 GAME FINALS.

YOU NEED TO GO TO A PACERS GAME WITH US NEXT SEASON. GREG BREWER AND I GO TO ABOUT 3 TO 4 A YEAR.

here are some little words for you.
    peace out
    -ORB
